Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein

Appropriate Age Range: 3-6 years

What this book is all about:

Papa tries to read little Chicken a bedtime story and yet despite many attempts to stop interrupting, Chicken can't help themselves as they jump in sharing happy endings to each of the sotries. When Papa has exhausted all stories, he suggests Chicken make up their own story, to which she creates a tale of little chicken putting Papa to bed.

Why you might want to read it:

Interrupting Chicken shares a tale that is familiar for many families. This book highlights the two sides to a bedtime routine: both the frustrating feelings of being interrupted and knowing your child isn't calming down for bed and yet it also shares a gentle reminder of their innocence and excitement that comes along with being a child.

3 Questions for you to ask your children after reading it:

  1. Why do you think Papa reminds Chicken not to interrupt the bedtime story?

  2. Why do you think Chicken had a hard time not interrupting? When is it hardest for you to not interrupt?

  3. What do you think would help Chicken to not interrupt?
