The Danish Way of Parenting

Appropriate Age Range:

Adults and caregivers.

What this book is all about:

The book sheds light on how Danes seem to raise really confident kids. The authors break their process down into six essentials that spell out PARENT (play, authenticity, reframing, empathy, no ultimatums, and togetherness). For the toddler year specifically, they reframe the "terrible twos" into "the boundary pushing age" and focus on supporting toddler's innate drive to seek autonomy instead of resigning to the fact that it's going to be a terrible stage.

Why you might want to read it:

If you want some philosophical and concrete ideas of how to feel better connected with your kid(s).

3 questions for you to ask yourself after reading it:

  1. What are some ways I can increase togetherness and play in my interactions with my kid(s) and family?

  2. How can I shift from seeing my kid's natural development as the problem (terrible twos) to supporting their natural development and enjoying the season?

  3. What are three ways I can show more empathy to myself, my partner, and my child(ren)?
