FAQs

How can therapy help me?
  • There are times when we all need a little help to solve problems that overwhelm us or cause emotional stress.  Counselors provide congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding for you during these times.  The therapeutic relationship enables you to explore deeply and assists you in finding constructive ways to cope with a situation that may be beyond your control.
What ages do you work with?
  • I counsel children, adolescents and adults.  I have experience with clients of all ages, but my expertise is counseling clients aged 3-18 years and their family.
What should I do when I arrive for my appointment?
  • Please come right in and have a seat in the waiting room.  You will often find me at the door to greet you, but sometimes I will be finishing up with a client.
What should I expect on my first appointment (Initial consultation)?
  • If you have completed the new patient forms (located here), we will review these forms and sign them.  If you have not completed the new patient forms, we will complete them together.  I will answer any questions you have and I will make a copy of your photo ID and the custodial agreement/order regarding your child if applicable. After this, we will talk about why you sought out counseling for your child and what you want to get out of counseling.  We will get to know one another and discuss what I can do for you.  We will complete a treatment plan which lists our goals for counseling.
How often will I have to see you?
  • This depends on your individual/family needs and what will be most beneficial to you.  Generally, clients need a minimum of once a week sessions.  As counseling progresses, you may begin to reduce your session to every other week, once a month or as needed to reinforce the growth you have made.
Which insurance companies do you accept?
  • I currently accept BlueCross Blueshield of Texas (Blue Choice PPO & Blue Cross Medicare Advantage PPO), however if you are with a different provider I can provide you with the appropriate forms to file independently with your insurance company for potential reimbursement.  I do accept major credit cards, personal checks and cash.  You can also pay ahead of time online here.

Are our sessions Confidential?
  • Counseling can only succeed in a trusting environment.  However, there are certain circumstances and conditions under which the content of the counseling sessions may no longer remain confidential.  I am ethically and legally obligated to disclose information given in confidence if there is reason to believe that your child may harm himself, herself or another.  I am ethically and legally obligated to disclose information given in confidence if there is reason to believe that your child is involved or has knowledge of child abuse or elder abuse.  I can be legally compelled to testify in a court of law and to disclose information given in confidence if a judge deems that there is just cause for such a testimony.  If I am legally compelled to disclose information about your child, this disclosure may include both verbal testimony and surrendering to the court any written notes or other records that I may possess.  Please refer to your Informed Consent Form and HIPAA Act Form (located here) to understand your rights since it is impossible to provide a complete list of all possible circumstances under which the content of the counseling sessions may no longer be confidential.
  • I will encourage your child to share critical information and feelings with you.  I encourage you as a parent to respect your child’s confidentiality and privacy.  I will provide parent consultations after a designated number of sessions or at any time that I believe it would benefit your child’s therapeutic progress.
What do I bring to our first session?

What if I am dissatisfied with your services?
  • As your counselor, I will conduct myself in a manner consistent with the professional and ethical standards of the Licensed Professional Counselor Act.
